What's up with Bluesky?

Twitter Alternatives

Over the last few months, Twitter users have gone through abundant trials and tribulations—what with the constant platform updates and un-updates, verification checkmark kerfuffle, and paid tier pricing changes. The platform, it feels, is on the decline. Twitter’s competition has taken note.

Meta, the owner of Facebook, Instagram, and What App, is developing a Twitter alternative.

Says a Meta spokesperson, “We’re exploring a standalone decentralized social network for sharing text updates. We believe there’s an opportunity for a separate space where creators and public figures can share timely updates about their interests.”

And Bluesky, coined as the decentralized Twitter clone, is in beta mode. The most interesting part about this new platform? It was created by Jack Dorsey, former CEO and co-founder of Twitter.

So what is the app after? Jay Graber at Bluesky writes, “People have been saying for years that it would be great if users could own their data and their relationships; if we could have transparent algorithms and algorithmic choice; if there could be more accountability and user control over how social platforms are moderated. We’ve now designed and built a system that we think achieves the goals stated above.”

We’ll have to wait and see what happens with the aforementioned apps. In the meantime, we want your opinion.

What platform would you be most inclined to flock to: Twitter, Meta, or Bluesky?
