YouTube’s New Features for Shorts
Youtube just rolled out six new tools for Creators. We’re most excited about the soon-to-come “recomposition tools,” which will make it easier for users to turn YouTube videos into Shorts. As marketers, we’re big fans of repurposing content. Many of our clients have long-form, horizontal videos that would reach a wider audience if they were reformatted into short-form, vertical videos. However, unless you’re a professional video editor, you probably don’t have the tools to transform your content. YouTube is about to change that.
YouTube says, “Once you choose a video to remix, you’ll be able to adjust the layout, zoom, and crop of the video segment. Split screen effects will also be available, so you can preserve key parts of your long-form content to create more engaging, original Shorts.” Get the scoop on all six new features here.
iOS 17 & Why Privacy Updates Will Be a Bummer for Advertisers
iOS 17 will be here in September, and Apple’s latest update will impact advertisers. In just a month, it will be even trickier for advertisers to follow the consumer journey. That’s because iOS 17 will remove URL tracking parameters from links accessed in its Mail and Messages apps and Safari Private Browsing.
While this update will provide consumers with more data privacy, it may detract from your marketing campaigns if you don’t have a solid ad strategy in place. To learn more about how this update may impact your ads, check out this in-depth article from Rockerbox.
New GA4 Tools for Marketers
ICYMI, Google Analytics is now GA4. Well, they just announced updates to improve the platform, including:
- A new audience report to identify your most engaged and profitable audiences
- Third-party segments to be used with Google Analytics 4 audiences in Google Ad Manager
- The capability to set a default value for a conversion event
- The ability to create your own e-commerce reports from scratch

Instagram Threads: The Future of the New Meta App
Last month, we shared our wariness over the launch of Meta’s new Twitter (err, X) clone, Threads. The platform surpassed a whopping 100M user sign-ups in less than a week, but just a week after launch, total active users dropped to 23.6M. And as of July 31, daily active users are down 82% to 8M. Woof.
Although Threads has seen a drastic decline in users, the platform is continuing to roll out updates. They’ve just added a Following tab that allows users to see threads from the people that they follow.
Did you just yawn? Same. That update is kinda boring. While this is our “Platform Update” section, we’d rather talk about something interesting, like this thought-provoking article put out by Wired, called “Threads Is the New Cool Hangout—for Brands”.
The article says, “The procession of brands on Threads isn’t being driven by an eagerness to find a solid Twitter alternative, but rather a rush to follow consumer eyeballs.” They share this conversation between brands as an example of how big brands are trying to post about relevant cultural moments rather than directly advertise.

What do you think: will Threads sink or swim? And are you more likely to post on X or Threads? Hmmm.
